This is the seventh book of Jon Swank's that I have read. I started with the Berlin series which I highly recommend. I enjoyed the author's storytelling style and character development very much and I am working my way through his library.
Nevada Cain Ranch is the love story of a Marine and a teacher/writer. Cody Will comes back from Afghanistan with a load of issues to deal with that he wants to find a solution for. Sean is struggling with his own issues and a desire to be a writer. These two come together easily it may seem on the surface, but how they meet, how they connect and how they come to love is a compelling read. These men do not live in a vacuum. There are good supporting characters who have dimension too and are not just cardboard cut outs. There are also two non-human characters--the dogs, who are very important to this story, especially Colonel Snickers. Our two main characters have to struggle with their issues, finding out how to love each other and build a life together as well as deal with some unsavory and potentially deadly occurrences. (I'm trying really hard to keep from inadvertently writing a spoiler.) I am sure you will enjoy this contemporary romance set in Nevada and that you will become involved in the story very quickly. The action builds to a crescendo and will get your heart beating faster. I would have loved for the story to go on longer just to continue to visit with these guys and their family some more. Maybe a sequel is in the air.

This is a very good gay love story about a veteran who has returned to live on his family's ranch in Nevada, and the gay brother of his closest friend in the Marines, who had been killed in Afghanistan. I especially liked the realism of the characters: what they say and do seemed so authentic and real. I liked the sense of humor Sean, one of the heroes, has and I liked how sincere and true the love story was. It progressed naturally and sweetly. The secondary characters were all extremely appealing also. Very good!

Well Done
The well written story line has action and a bit of mystery without descending into worrisome venues of angst or misdirected communications. Decent character development for Cody Will and Sean, with a fine supporting cast. The book remains positive even with the incidents of PTSD. The book ends promising a HEA.

Superb read. Thank-you Mr. Swank for an endearing book. The subtlety with which PTSD is portrayed is sensitive and poignant. I enjoyed this book so much I have immediately started the Berlin series by the same author.
